What is a Midwife?
A midwife is a primary health care professional who provides expert care to our clients with normal pregnancy, labour and birth. Midwives also provide care to our clients and their babies for 6 weeks after the birth. Prenatal and postnatal appointments include sharing information, providing education about choices, nutrition counselling, breastfeeding teaching, and regular check-ups of the mother and baby.
You have the choice of birthing in the comfort of your own home or at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Once active labour begins, we provide you with one-to-one support, help you to deliver the baby, and then care for both of you immediately following the birth. We also come to your home in the first week following the birth to help ensure a healthy recovery and to promote newborn bonding.
Midwifery care is part of the Ontario health care system and is fully paid for by the government to any resident of Ontario, with or without OHIP. No doctor referral is needed - just fill out our intake form found on this website.
